Free Subscribe to receive brief updates on unofficial English translations and commentary related to Japan’s AI and digital policy.

Many of Japan’s AI and digital policy guidelines, handbooks, and public-sector documents contain carefully developed ideas and practical insights. However, many of these materials are published only in Japanese. This publication is a voluntary, personal initiative by the editor to help make such materials more accessible to AI and digital policy practitioners, researchers, and professionals outside Japan who may find them useful.

This publication is intended for public- and private-sector professionals, researchers, policy analysts, and others who follow Japan’s AI governance, digital policy, and public-sector technology developments.

Each post highlights newly added translation pages from the public archive, with concise context on the original Japanese source, issuing body, policy relevance, and practical implications.

What you will receive

New posts may include:

  • Unofficial English translations of Japanese government and public-sector AI/digital policy documents

  • Short summaries of key points from the original materials

  • Contextual notes explaining how each document fits within Japan’s broader AI and digital policy landscape

  • Links to the original Japanese source and the full unofficial translation archive

Editorial note

This publication is independently maintained by a Japan-based AI ethics researcher. It is not an official government translation service, and the original Japanese documents remain the authoritative sources.

Commentary reflects the editor’s personal views and does not represent the views of any current or former affiliated organization.

Not every Japanese-only document can be covered, but the editor aims to highlight timely and relevant materials where possible. If you know someone who may benefit from these updates, sharing this publication on social media would be greatly appreciated.
